Local Gungahlin businesses progressing growth of arts in region with commission of student-led art wall

A new community artwork, executed by 23 local students from Gungahlin College has been unveiled in the heart of Gungahlin. The artwork is the first step towards progressing the growth of arts in the region; the next of which is to transform Gungahlin College’s Arts Stage into the first public art exhibition space in Gungahlin.

The 14 metre long and 1 metre tall digital wall installation displays an array of diverse birds, painted by the individual students. Each student was asked to select a bird based on beauty, wisdom, playfulness and vividness, and paint it in a medium of choice. read more

Fewer shopping trolleys to be abandoned with new systems now in place

Residents should see fewer shopping trolleys abandoned on nature strips, in parks and by the roadside after new systems were put in place this week to ensure retailers that provide trolleys have containment systems in place.

“Over recent months, Transport Canberra and City Services has been working closely with major retail providers to ensure they comply with shopping trolley management and the regulatory requirements of the Litter Act 2004,” Minister for Transport and City Services Meegan Fitzharris said. read more
