Free healthcare services on the way for Gungahlin community

The Gungahlin community will soon have access to free local healthcare services with construction works now underway on a new nurse-led Walk-in Centre.

The Gungahlin Walk-in Centre will be Canberra’s third centre offering free one-off treatment for people with minor illness and injury, with two others already operating in Tuggeranong and Belconnen. read more

Minister for Health Meegan Fitzharris said Walk in Centres provided an alternative for people needing access to healthcare for less serious conditions. read more

New eftpos grant helps protect teens in Amaroo

Amaroo teens will be better protected from the sun thanks to funding from eftpos’ Shade for Secondary Schools program – providing sun shade at Amaroo School.

eftpos will provide funding for an additional 18 high schools across Australia, for permanent shade or a marquee to be constructed on their grounds. This brings the total funding for the Shade for Secondary Schools program to $1.25 million. read more

Canberra’s public playgrounds and play spaces to be smoke-free

Public playgrounds and play spaces in the ACT will be smoke-free as of Wednesday 7 September, Assistant Minister for Health Meegan Fitzharris announced this week.

The declaration of these new smoke-free areas is the first to be made by the ACT Government under the Smoke-Free Public Places Amendment Bill 2016, which was passed in the ACT Legislative Assembly earlier this year. read more

Canberra Liberals to build local hospital in Gungahlin and Tuggeranong

The Canberra Liberals will build and open new local public hospitals in both Gungahlin and Tuggeranong if elected at next month’s ACT Election. The two new hospitals will have 24 hour emergency departments, 12 bed short stay wards and will be staffed by specialist doctors and nurses, Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Health Jeremy Hanson said today. read more

Gungahlin Community Health Centre proves popular

As part of the ACT Government’s Pop-Up Cabinet event in Gungahlin today, Ministers toured the Gungahlin Community Health Centre, which has provided more than 26,000 occasions of service to the local community in the last 12 months.

The Pop-up Cabinet in Gungahlin is the third event following visits to Woden and Belconnen last year. The Pop-up Cabinets allow Canberrans to engage directly with ACT Government Ministers to discuss local issues. Then next one is in Tuggeranong on 2 and 3 March. read more
