ACT Government welcomes $625,000 boost to protect native species

The ACT Government has today welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement to contribute almost $625,000 to help protect threatened species in the ACT.

Minister for the Environment Simon Corbell welcomed the funding, which would be used for further preservation of the Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary, as well as specialised habitats for the endangered Northern Corroboree Frog. read more

New suburb of Throsby declared cat containment area

Minister for Territory and Municipal Services Shane Rattenbury today announced the declaration of Throsby as a new cat containment area.

“Throsby will be a unique suburb nestling against Mulligans Flat and Goorooyarroo Nature Reserves, two of ACT’s most diverse nature reserves that contain a range of grassland, woodland and forest habitats that support many native plants and animals such as the eastern bettong, bush stone-curlew and one of the largest stands of yellow box – Blackely’s red gum woodland left in Australia,” said Mr Rattenbury read more

Caring for cats and wildlife

Minister for Territory and Municipal Services Shane Rattenbury and the today reminded people living in cat containment areas of their requirements for protecting cats and nearby native wildlife.

“One of Canberra’s great assets is the bushland that surrounds its suburbs and the abundance of birds and animals that call it home,” Mr Rattenbury said. read more

160 native bird species on show at Mulligans Flat
