Gungahlin SES to represent ACT in National Challenge

A team of 7 from Gungahlin State Emergency Service is flying to Tasmania today to represent the ACT SES in the National Disaster Rescue Challenge over the weekend.

The team have worked extremely hard over the last 18 months to prepare for this and we are very proud of them, and will benefit from this extra training in many ways. read more

Ecological burn in Gungahlin today

The ACT Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate (EPSDD) will conduct a ecological burn in Franklin today, 4th November 2017. It is expected to commence mid morning and be complete mid afternoon.

Dependent on suitable weather and fuel moisture conditions, the burn will take place in the Mulanggari Grassland Nature Reserve off Gungahlin Drive. read more

Fire on store roof in Gungahlin

ACT Fire & Rescue has extinguished a small fire in a circuit board attached to solar panels on the roof of a store in Gungahlin.

Crews were alerted to the incident on Ernest Cavanagh Street at 9:39am and responded with two fire pumpers and a commander vehicle. read more

Smoke haze around Canberra

Emergency Services Agency has advised that residents, especially those in the west of Canberra, may notice a heavy smoke haze around the local region.

This smoke is the result of prescribed hazard-reduction pile burns in Kowen Forest as well as other hazard reduction burns taking place in surrounding NSW. read more

Gungahlin Rural Fire Brigade celebrate 20 years

Last night the members of the Gungahlin Rural Fire Brigade hung up their fire fighting gear for a celebratory dinner at Da Nunzio to celebrate their 20th anniversary.

Gungahlin Rural Fire Brigade is part of the ACT Rural Fire Service which is responsible for protecting life, property and the environment from all bush and grass fires that occur within rural areas or non-suburban areas of the ACT. read more

House fire in Ngunnawal

Yesterday afternoon at around 4:42pm ACT Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a house fire at Minnta Place Ngunnawal.

ACT Fire and Rescue responded with three trucks, the breathing apparatus van, hazardous materials unit and a commander.  read more

As the ACT nears the hottest period on a Total Fire Ban day, Canberrans are reminded to keep safe and avoid spending time outdoors.

It is important to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activity, and if you must be in the sun protect yourself with sunscreen, loose clothing and a hat. Please also pay special attention to the elderly and young children. read more

The Total Fire Ban has been declared in line with a statewide Total Fire Ban in New South Wales. read more
