TOTAL FIRE BAN and severe weather

The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) would like to remind people to take extra precautions today with SEVERE fire danger and strong winds forecast. A Total Fire Ban is in place.

If a fire starts at the fire danger level of SEVERE it may be uncontrollable and move quickly. Flames may be higher than rooftops. read more

Fire extinguished at Mitchell Resource Management Centre

Just after 6pm on Saturday 17th March ACT Fire and Rescue were called to a fire in two semi-trailers at the Mitchell Resource Management Centre.

Crews used water and foam to bring the fire under control and extinguish the fire. Smoke will be visible in the area for some time. read more

Canberra Metro Construction Notice Temporary Road Closure - Between Kate Crace Street and Manning Clark Crescent (North) on Flemington Road -19 March - 29 March 2018

From Monday 19 March the southbound lanes on Flemington Road, between Manning Clark Crescent (North) and Kate Crace Street, will be closed, 24 hours a day for one week.

Once these works are complete, the northbound lanes on Flemington Road between Manning Clark Crescent (North) and Kate Crace Street will be closed. read more

Extra buses to Skyfire and free return services

Extra bus services including a free return shuttle will be available this weekend to help Canberrans get to Skyfire.

Transport Canberra Director, Public Transport Operations Ian McGlinn said that the additional bus services will make it easier for Canberrans to get to the shores of Lake Burley Griffin to enjoy the fireworks. read more

Sportsgrounds to close for renovation ahead of the winter season

All ACT Government irrigated sportsgrounds will be closed from Sunday 18 March to Saturday 31 March, 2018 (inclusive) to undergo necessary renovations, which are carried out twice yearly at the beginning and end of the summer sport season.

“During the shutdown period, all ACT Government irrigated natural turf sportsgrounds will be closed and unavailable for formal hire, allowing much needed biannual maintenance work to be carried out,” Transport Canberra and City Services, Director of City Presentation, Stephen Alegria said. read more

Man driving under the influence attempts to drive over a wall

A 42-year-old man has been served with an Immediate Suspension Notice, suspending his right to drive in the ACT for 90 days following an incident in Mitchell on the Canberra Day long weekend.

About 3.45am on Sunday, 11 March 2018, ACT Policing officers were on patrol in Mitchell, when they had a conversation with the man. read more
