Plan finalised to reduce illegal dumping at charity bins


A new Code of Practice to reduce illegal dumping at charity bins across the ACT has been finalised, announced Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Shane Rattenbury, today.

“Charity bins are a great way for the community to support charities with donations of clothing, footwear and blankets, but unfortunately they also attract illegal dumping. This dumping causes amenity and safety issues, while also posing a problem for charity groups and ACT Government staff who are called on to remove it,” said Mr Rattenbury. read more

Household garbage and recycling collections as normal this week


In response to a challenge in the Fair Work Commission by SITA, the Transport Workers Union (TWU) will not be going ahead with proposed industrial action this week which would have impacted on household waste and recycling collection.

"We are pleased the TWU has withdrawn their notice of industrial action and the planned garbage strike will not go ahead tomorrow and Thursday," said David Roberts, Acting Director, ACT NOWaste. read more

Gungahlin Jets Hangar Targeted Again


Did you see suspicious activity around the Amaroo playing fields early yesterday morning?

ACT Policing received a report of a burglary at the Gungahlin Jets Football Team clubhouse at the Amaroo playing fields about 9.45am Tuesday morning. ACT Policing Gungahlin Patrol members attended to examine the scene. An amount of food and drink were stolen. Investigations are ongoing. read more

Police pleased by fatality free Easter


ACT Policing say they are pleased the Australian Capital Territory remained fatality-free over the holiday period, with only two collisions resulting in minor injuries over the Easter holiday period (17 to 21 April).

The Operation Crossroads partnership between ACT Policing and NSW Police provided a highly visible presence on our region’s roads aimed at reducing road trauma and keeping people safe during a traditionally busy time on our roads. read more

Gungahlin Leisure Centre Update


As previously advised Sport and Recreation Services has awarded the contract for the management of the soon to be opened Gungahlin Leisure Centre (GLC) to not-for-profit organisation the YMCA (the Y).

The contract is for a 10 year period however, it will be reviewed after the first two years. read more
